Kukui‘ula Opens Hawaii’s First Major Residential Community in More Than a Decade

June 15, 2011 – Kaua’i’s Culture, Beauty and Authenticity Are Showcased Throughout the Property

Kaua’i, Hawaii – Picturesque and desirably located on the sunny southern coastline of Kaua’i, Kukui’ula debuts its exclusive 1,010-acre luxury residential community to connect residents with Hawai’i through authentic surroundings and signature amenities.

Developed by Kukui’ula Development Company (Hawai’i) LLC, an affiliate of DMB
of Scottsdale, Ariz. and A&B Properties, Inc. of Honolulu, Kukui’ula is nestled between the Po’ipu Beach area to the east, the National Tropical Botanical Garden to the west, and the historic plantation town of Koloa to the north.

“We are extremely excited to offer individuals and families the chance to experience first-hand the natural beauty and genuine traditions of Kaua’i in this new residential community” said Brent Herrington, President of Kukui’ula. “Kukui’ula is the perfect marriage of luxury living and casual lifestyle. Everyday our residents are presented with an array of engaging opportunities to immerse themselves in the beauty of the surrounding area and the true culture of this island.”

Kukui’ula, named after the kukui or candlenut torches that once guided fisherman back home to the island, includes a portfolio of custom ocean view home sites and signature cottages. The various neighborhood cottage collections available in this luxury residential community range in size from 1,500 to 3,800 square feet, and start at $2.2 million, with custom homesites beginning at $1 million.

The private $100 million club facility, situated above the rhythmic waves of Kukui’ula Bay,
serves as the social and recreational hub of the community and consists of The Plantation House, a world-class spa, golf clubhouse, a spectacular collection of swimming pools, 50-acre community farm and a Tom Weiskopf-designed 18-hole championship golf course.

The Plantation House is the heart of the club facility with all-day views of the Pacific, Sprouting Horn and awe-inspiring sunsets. This 20,000 square foot facility enjoys classic Hawaiian design with coffered ceilings and wood beams, and includes a collaboration of furnishings from around the world. It offers family entertainment and restaurants serving fresh, flavorful and authentic cuisine from the finest of local purveyors in a classic laid-back Hawaiian atmosphere. On the grounds outside the Plantation House are the heavenly Makai pools perfect for lounging, wading or splashing in cascading waterfalls.

Adjacent to the Plantation House is The Spa at Kukui‘ula, an elaborate 20,000 square foot sanctuary, offering residents relaxation and rejuvenation through private indoor/outdoor treatment rooms, extensive fitness facilities, a movement studio for yoga and pilates as well as a lap pool for exercise and water therapies. Other highlights include men’s and women’s locker rooms, each with individual outdoor garden showers and a glass-walled steam room located in a landscaped courtyard formed by lava rock walls and hot and cold plunge pools. The individual treatment rooms are spacious and offer a generous outdoor area that provides a lava rock shower, large stone tub and relaxing pune’e (Hawaiian daybed) to relax after treatments.

The Kukui’ula Golf Course, a private 18-hole championship course designed by British Open Winner Tom Weiskopf, follows the natural flow of the land through the coffee fields, meadows and rolling hillsides of Kukui’ula. This 216-acre, par 72 course features panoramic ocean views, paspalum-turf, sand-plated fairways and a landscaped filled with native flora. The golf clubhouse consists of a well-appointed golf shop, men’s and women’s locker rooms, expansive lanai seating and indoor lounging areas.

The Island Pursuits Team at Kukui’ula helps residents connect with Kaua’i’s most inspiring guides, teachers and trainers. From mountain hikes with a local naturalist to painting classes in the community’s creative studio, Kukui’ula offers access to an array of pursuits—it connects residents with these activities in a memorable and inspiring way.
A flora-lined path and trail system invites residents to explore their tropical surroundings as well as the island’s natural and agricultural traditions. The Upcountry Farm and Lake A’epo’eha offer benefits to residents including the choice to gather their own fruit, vegetables, herbs and tropical flowers as well as enjoy picnicking, hiking and biking.
