Experience Matters, a nonprofit dedicated to connecting active adults to community nonprofits where they can invest their time and talents, recently awarded their first Encore Prize to Michael McQuaid. In collaboration with the Piper Trust, this prize recognizes the exemplary efforts of an individual who, in his encore career, has applied their skills to a nonprofit to make a major community impact.
McQuaid serves as the Chairman of the Board for the Human Service Campus in downtown Phoenix. Before joining the Human Services Campus, McQuaid worked in the commercial real estate industry. His development and construction expertise were critical in the campus development. Along his journey, he’s been the catalyst for other community leaders to lend their talents to the Campus and its affiliates.
For years, he served the first managing director, at a salary of $1 a year. Under his leadership, they brought together the services to address the needs of homeless individuals, from medical care, services, job training and more. Collectively, these nonprofits provide wrap-around services, on a single campus, to support those who are experiencing homelessness or are chronically homeless.
DMB and the Victory District at Verrado are proud supporters of the Piper Trust’s Encore Career Prize and Experience Matters. As more people enter their “second act,” programs like these offer the opportunity to discover personal passions and to impact the community in a meaningful way. Experience Matters offers a huge opportunity for nonprofits to build organizational capacity leveraging the expertise of these seasoned professionals.
Congratulations to Michael McQuaid and to all of the Experience Matters Encore Fellows!
