The Garden Island in full bloom
Kukui‘ula is the highest expression of Kaua‘i, known as Hawaii’s Garden Island. To create this radiant retreat, DMB spent five years researching the architecture and cultural history of Kaua‘i. The resulting community is a serene jewel that reflects the most rural of the Hawaiian Islands. No gates or fences separate people or property, honoring the relaxed spirit of the island.
An authentic fit, crafted with great care
This DMB development was built in partnership with the people of Kaua‘i, the county government and A&B Properties, Inc., who owned the land. It is a seamless fit with the island.
Maintaining the island’s serenity
Kukui‘ula was zoned for 2,000 units. Traffic reports indicated that this would forever change the island, so DMB created a low-density community with no more than 1,500 units.
Idyllic weather for indoor/outdoor living
Kukui’ula sits on the sunny Poipu coastline, which resulted in its pedestrian-friendly design. A beguiling system of trails, called the Charm Bracelet, encourages walking with its many lush, fanciful gardens.

Saying Kaua‘i in every detail
DMB was determined to build a community that was deeply luxurious and undeniably Kaua‘i. Accordingly, the architecture is a graceful, indigenous plantation style. Homes are oriented to protect outdoor areas from the tradewinds. Even the color palette reflects the culture of Kaua‘i. At the organic farm, residents can pick healthy food that grows in the island’s rich red earth.
The Shops at Kukui‘ula
The charming Shops at Kukui‘ula offer more than 78,000 square feet of commercial space, which includes restaurants and retail. Here, glowing lanterns hang from the trees and local musicians serenade the customers.
The Plantation House
Paradise has a Club all its own
The heart of social life at Kukui‘ula is the gracious Plantation House, open on the west to sunsets and views of the Pacific. Club members also have access to the elegant, open-air Spa, a haven for wellness and traditional island treatments. Winding through tropical terrain, the spectacular Tom Weiskopf golf course offers ocean views on every hole.
