Apple helping to fulfill DMB’s vision for Eastmark

Apple announced Tuesday that it is coming to Mesa – to Eastmark. Apple purchased the First Solar building at Eastmark to operate a manufacturing facility that will create high-quality, green tech jobs for the region. Their investment in the East Valley will have a massive economic impact for the region and our state.

More than a year ago, DMB collaborated with the Arizona Commerce Authority, the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, the City of Mesa and others to bring another division of Apple to Arizona. Although a compelling vision for Eastmark was presented, Apple decided to locate that operation in Austin, Texas. A year later, in a remarkable turn of events, Apple will be coming to Eastmark.
The manufacturing facility will be located at the former First Solar Inc. factory and will make high tech glass for Apple products. This will be the first significant Arizona presence for Apple Inc., which purchased the former First Solar building for its supplier, GT Advanced Technologies Inc. Along with the 700+ quality jobs that will be created at the plant in the first year, it is anticipated that the project will generate 1,300 construction and associated jobs.Apple-AZ-Family-Video-Screenshot

When the planning for Eastmark began, it was envisioned that employers like Apple would come to the area, world-class companies that would help to create a destination for high quality jobs, an employment core for the Southeast Valley. Apple, one of the most innovative and respected brands in the world, will be a great complement to Eastmark’s early partners including BASIS Mesa and Grand Canyon University. The vision for a vibrant community where families could live, work, play, and learn is shaping into a reality.
